ZIP Files Opener is a Windows freeware that lets you unzip files, zip them and more.

ZIP is a file format for archives. This is a lossless compression format, which means that although size on disk is shrunk, no data is compromised in the process. Before Windows supported ZIP directly through the operating system, it was often necessary to have a separate program that could zip and unzip. This was especially true for Internet users since many downloads were zipped in order to save bandwidth.

ZIP Files Opener is one such third-party app. It basically provides a graphical frontend to the ZIP API and exposes its most basic features. Features include the option to add one or more files to a new or existing ZIP archive. Users can also extract one or more files or folders from an existing archive. Splitting is also supported, which is the process of splitting an existing ZIP archive into two or more archives.

The ZIP API supports password protection as well, and that is realized by ZIP Files Opener too. Password protection lets you keep your data from prying eyes. If a ZIP archive is not currently password protection, you can add a password. If a ZIP archive is password protected and you know the current password, then you can either change the password or eliminate it altogether.

ZIP Files Opener supports Windows XP and Vista only and has not been updated for newer OS versions. It has a user interface color and image scheme that was garish back when it was released and has not fared any better in aging. The ugly UI aside, it does what it sets out to do, but what it does is achieved by Windows natively now and is done a lot better by other Windows compression software.
